I'm the author of 23 books on various topics, but my main interest has always been science. My degree is in experimental psychology with an emphasis on neurology, behavioral neuroscience, and medically-related psychology, but my research career was cut short and I eventually shifted to researching and writing books.

Back in 1977 I began gathering interesting scientific discoveries for a book I intended to write. By 1990 I had the book laid out with the table of contents and could describe what each chapter would contain, but I had other book projects that took precedence. By 2010 I had a few thousand pages of notes—more than enough material for several science books and I finally had a chance to begin writing in earnest. This type of writing is very labor intensive in order to maintain its quality and accuracy, and there's still a lot of work to be done, but I really want to share some of it with you, so I thought I'd post a few excerpts here. I really hope you enjoy them.

You can find out more about my books at www.JohnRichardStephens.com. Because of my workload, I'm afraid I don't have time to respond to all comments, but I will read them and respond to those that I can. You can also contact me at John@AWondrousWorld.com.

I'm fascinated by nature and the world around us and in us. I hope this comes across in my blog. I spend at least a couple of hours every day reading science books, articles, and press releases, and I'm constantly amazed at the newest discoveries. There are just so many fascinating things out there that we don't hear about unless we seek them out. We really do live in a wondrous world.
